Jacob Matthew

Jacob Matthew is an independent Film Producer currently living in the Arts District of Los Angeles, CA. As a young filmmaker, Jacob cut his teeth in commercial film working with brands such as Salesforce, Twilio and Autodesk. A few short years later, his work evolved into the world of independent documentary film. Having come up as a long time bartender, Jacob’s passion for honest and human stories drove him towards independent filmmaking.

In 2021, his first feature project The Minimalists: Less Is Now premiered as a Netflix Original and was even nominated for an Emmy. Despite the critical success of the film, Jacob decided to focus his career away from the traditional studio system in order to focus on building a pathway for filmmakers to own the work that they make and have equity in their films.

Out of this mission, his next project birthed the virally successful comedy project Gilly and Keeves. Alongside comedic geniuses Shane Gillis and John Mckeever, Jacob built a pathway to independently produce and release the project such that the success of the film remained with the filmmakers.

Jacob’s next independent venture returns him to his roots in hard hitting documentary film. Partnering with longtime filmmaking collaborator Chris Newhard and the NYT Best Selling Author Max Lugavere, their feature documentary film Little Empty Boxes focuses on how the story of a son doing everything that he came to help his mother as she copes with Lou Body Dementia.

Jacob’s current slate of films are all being developed with the same mission he had as a young bartender in Philly: building a path for creatives to make work that they love and own that work in the process.
